Treating Treated Wood

But when cutting thick pieces of wood, such as fence posts, the preservative may not have soaked all the way to the center of the lumber. Watch this video to see how to use preservative to treat the end grain of lumber. Watch this video.

Filling Joints in Patio Pavers

Decks and Patios, Simple Solutions, Video by Joe Truini

Filling Joints in Patio Pavers

The joints between patio pavers are usually filled with sand, which has a tendency to wash out of the cracks over time. PowerLoc Jointing Sand from Quikrete is a polymer based product that prevents it from washing out or cracking. Simply pour it out and sweep the jointing sand diagonally into the cracks with a push broom. To lock it in place, mist the surface down with water from a sprayer, going over it three times within an hour, and let dry. Watch this video.

Carpentry, Concrete and Masonry, Decks and Patios, Exterior, Garden Tools & Supplies, Lawn and Garden, Simple Solutions, Video by Joe Truini

Screed Board

Whether you’re creating a brick landing for a new set of steps or forming a small brick path, the trick is to get a nice sub surface to support the bricks. You’ll need a nice smooth surface but also one with a consistent depth, otherwise some bricks may be higher or lower than others creating a tripping hazard. To create a smooth surface create a screed (the same tool concrete finishers use to smooth out concrete). Watch this video.
