Taking Down Walls

Taking Down Walls Taking down a wall or removing a section of one is a part of most major remodeling projects. Over the years, many of my customers have had us break through a wall in a little-used formal dining room to enlarge the kitchen and create an open floor plan. We’ve also removed quite a few walls for homeowners who want to transform small adjoining bedrooms into a single master suite. And, of course, exterior walls frequently need to be removed for additions in order to help integrate the new space with the old.

How to Wax Drawer Guides

Drawers with wooden drawer guides often stick with age or changes in humidity. To smooth things out apply wax to the contacting surfaces and then lightly dust with cornstarch. Reapplication may be necessary with excessive use.

Bed Slat Boards

Bed slats that slide out of position are annoying if not dangerous and can create a bunk bed disaster. Add friction to the wooden slats by wrapping rubber bands around the ends of the slats where they contact the bed rails. This will keep them in place yet still allow the slats to be easily removed for repositioning the bed or for cleaning.

Under Bed Storage

The space under your bed doesn’t have to be just for hiding stuff you don’t want to put away. By adding casters to the underside of an old drawer you can recycle it to serve as under-bed storage. Watch this video to find out how.

Low-Cost Big Desk

Low-Cost Big Desk You’d be surprised how easy it is to build this simple desk. For about $75 (even less if you use recycled materials), you get more than 15 square feet of desktop space plus an optional shelf underneath for computer equipment or extra books.

Laundry Organizer

Here’s a simple solution to organizing the dirty laundry in your laundry room. Construct a custom shelf unit sized to hold three to five laundry hampers so clothes can be sorted upon arrival in the laundry room.
