How to Measure and Cut Drywall

Carpentry, Repairs and Installation, Simple Solutions, Video by Joe Truini

To mark or cut drywall to size, hold the tape measure at the distance needed with your thumb and finger, then slide your finger along the edge of the sheet with a pencil or utility knife positioned against the end of the tape. Another option is to set a combination square to the proper distance, and use it as a guide to make a mark or cut.

Once the cut has been made on the face side of the drywall, bend the sheet away from the face until it breaks, and cut the paper on the backside to complete the cut.
