Drainage is crucial to the health of container plants. That’s why most pots are made with drain holes in the bottom. Unfortunately this also allows the potting soil to escape. Here’s a simple tip to prevent that. Before you fill your pot with soil put a handful or two of Styrofoam packing peanuts in the bottom. The peanuts will keep the soil from escaping and still allow the water to drain.
