Landscaping projects are almost always time and labor intensive but they don’t have to cost a fortune if you’re patient and do a little planning. First don’t do all of your shopping at one time or one place. Plan ahead and then follow the sale prices at different outlets over several weeks instead of being in a rush to buy all of your plants and materials at one store on the day you start your project. Second, buy in bulk if you can. Things like mulch and topsoil are typically much cheaper when you buy them by the pick-up truck load instead of getting an equal amount in bags from the home center. Finally, work with friends and neighbors to split the cost of rental equipment like tillers, aerators and post-hole augers. You’ll both save some money while you brighten up the neighborhood.
