When there are no longer presents stacked under it, a Christmas tree starts looking lonely.  And, depending on how early you put it up, the truth is it’s probably getting pretty dry, which makes it a fire hazard. So you need to get it out of the house, but you don’t have to “throw it away.” There are lots of ways to re-use that Christmas tree once its decorating duties are done.  Many communities offer tree recycling programs. The tress are collected from several locations and  then ground up to create mulch that can be used all year long. You can do your own recycling too by cutting the boughs into small pieces to use in landscape beds as aromatic mulch.  Or, chopped-up Christmas trees can also go into the compost pile to give it a mid-winter boost.
