There are lots of projects around the house that call for the mixing of concrete…from the setting fence posts to patio and sidewalk projects. The folks at Quikrete know all about this stuff and they remind us that it’s important keep curing concrete as cool as possible in this heat to prevent it from setting up too fast. To harden properly concrete needs water for the hydration process but heat makes it evaporate too quickly, preventing the mix from getting as hard as it should. To keep it cool try using cool or cold water to mix the concrete… be sure to wet down the gravel base and form boards with water… and then as the surface begins to harden, spray it with a gentle mist of water to keep it damp.
