The ability to make clean, straight cuts with a circular saw takes years of experience to develop. If you’re not a pro, what do you do when you have to have a clean square cut? Build a jig of course. All you need is a  piece of one by six and a piece of one by two. Both should be about two feet in length. Using a square, align the one by two perpendicular to the one by six, centered at one end and attach it with screws and glue. You’ve created a T-square. Now, run your circular saw along the one by six so it trims the right side of the one by two. When you need to make a cut align that edge with your mark and use the T-square to guide your saw.
