Even after you remove the snow from walks and drives you still have to deal with the ice that’s left behind. Ice forms a bond with concrete or asphalt which isn’t easily broken. The solution is a de-icer or an anti-icer. De-icers go down on top of snow or ice to break that bond which makes it easier to remove the snow and leaves behind a safer walking surface. The most common of these is rock salt. If you apply them just as the snow starts falling, they tend work better so you don’t have to use as much. The anti-icers on the other hand, go down before the snowfall begins and prevent the bond between ice and pavement from ever forming. In either case it’s important to read the labels closely and follow all instructions.
