A slow draining or fowl smelling kitchen sink will be a big problem on Thanksgiving morning when you’re preparing the family feast, so fix it now. Both of these symptoms are signs that the sink’s pea trap is probably clogged. The pea trap is that curved section of pipe beneath the sink and it’s designed to hold back some water to block sewer gasses from entering your home….that’s the fowl smell. If that curved section becomes clogged with hair and grease, it keeps the water from making a complete seal, and sewer gas then has a clear path back into your home. You need a mild acid or caustic solution to break-up the clog so try pouring some warm vinegar down the drain occasionally to keep it clear and clean.
