Exterior house painting isn’t complicated, but there are a few techniques that will help you get your project done fast and right. For example, paint your larger surfaces first… start with the siding and work your way to the windows and trim. If possible, remove the doors and shutters so you can paint them separately. Begin painting at the top of the house and work your way down. If you’re painting horizontal siding, coat the bottom edge first so you’re less likely to miss it. You’ll also want to “Feather” or fan out your brush strokes so you eliminate overlap marks and drips. If you have a large area to paint, you might consider using an airless sprayer. Keep the Sprayer moving in steady, even strokes to avoid buildup and have a brush ready to “back-brush” any drips or streaks. Oh, and be sure to cover everything that you don’t want painted.
