Keeping up with the latest styles in your home doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg…sometimes it just requires some elbow grease. I’ve noticed lately that the new style in ceiling fans and light fixtures is a flat bronze or black color instead of the polished brass we saw several years ago. If your fan or light fixture is working fine, why replace it when you can simply paint it. Take it down and remove the glass or wood components first before you rough up the polished surfaces with some fine steel wool. You’ll also want to cover any electrical parts with masking tape before painting it. Then a couple of good coats of a quality spray paint should do the trick to transform the old to the new.
