There are few things more satisfying than planning a renovation project around your home and seeing it come to completion. But if you are paying a professional to do part, or all, of the project… how do you know when to make that final payment? Before you sign off on the work and write that check, use this checklist to make sure the job is really complete. First, be sure that all the work meets the standards spelled out in the contract. Then, make sure you have written warranties for both materials and workmanship. You should also receive written proof that all subcontractors and suppliers have been paid in full. Finally, if you have inspected and approve the work, be sure that the job site is cleaned and cleared of excess materials, tools and equipment before you write the check.
