Mowing is an important part of outdoor maintenance for most of us and the folks at John Deere remind us that we need to consider future mowing chores when landscaping an area. Remember that small saplings grow into large trees so be sure to leave enough space for your mower to get around a tree when it is full-grown. Take a careful look at hillsides. If you can’t back up the slope, or if you feel uneasy on it, plant a decorative ground cover instead of turf. Remove low-hanging tree branches that could hit an eye or knock you off balance while mowing. And finally dig out a circle of grass around the base of trees and fill it with a soft mulch, like shredded bark. This helps protect the tree from the mower plus it also makes trimming faster and easier.
