Even folks who love their yards sometimes “cut corners” to get the most out of each mowing…. they lower the blade as far as it will go, hoping they can go an extra week before mowing again. Sounds like a good plan but it isn’t good for the lawn. The grass will be healthiest when you only cut about one third of the overall blade height each time you mow. That means setting the mower a little higher and mowing more frequently. Mowers like the John Deere EZtrak and select series tractors make this easier because their decks are adjustable in quarter inch increments and have a built-in memory for cut height adjustment. So you can mow at the right height every time and have a thicker, greener lawn that’s more resistant to the growth of weeds.
