By now your lawn should be in full swing, healthy and green. But, if it develops a brown, dried out look after mowing, the culprit just might be a dull lawnmower blade. My fiends at John Deere tell me that a dull blade rips and tears the grass tips instead of cutting them, so within hours they begin drying out and turning brown. This condition also creates an entryway that allows disease to attack the plant. Whether you have a professional sharpen the blade for you or do it yourself with a hand file or a bench grinder …. It’s an important part of mower maintenance that needs to done regularly. If you repeat this chore every month during the mowing season you can be sure that your yard will keep looking “sharp.”
