We often talk about things like adding insulation to the attic and replacing drafty windows to make your home more energy efficient but those things do take some time and money. There are, however, some really simple things you can do to make a big impact on your utility bills. First, set back your thermostat about 10 degrees when you’re away from home for 8 hours or more. You’ll shave as much as 10 percent off of your energy bill without sacrificing comfort. Check the furnace filter and replace it if it’s dirty. That dirt makes it work harder to heat the house, so it’s much less efficient.  Finally, make sure that your South facing windows aren’t blocked so they can collect all of that free solar heat during the daylight hours….
