As Earth Day approaches you’ll hear about all kinds of ideas and initiatives to save energy and resources and one of my favorites is Solar water heating! These systems allow you to take advantage of the sun’s natural heat and transfer it the water in your home. Now, they won’t likely provide all the hot water you need unless you live in an extreme southern climate, but for most folks they can take care of about fifty to eighty percent of your needs. When you realize that water heating is the number 2 or 3 energy user in your home that makes a big difference. And even though solar water heating uses some energy, the cost to operate these systems is only about 10 percent of a conventional system.
