A water feature is a great way to start a backyard retreat because it will work in almost any size space or budget. It provides a visual focal point while the sound of moving water creates a soothing atmosphere and blocks out neighboring noises like traffic. Large or small, the basic components are the same….A upper pool, or basin, and a lower one. The two pools are connected together by plumbing while a small pump to moves the water from the bottom back to the top after gravity brings it down. You can buy them ready made or create your own with parts from the hardware store. Planters and urns make great basins since most already have drain holes in the bottom so you can route the plumbing from one to the other. But remember…. an outdoor electrical device like this pump must be connected to a Ground Fault Interrupter Circuit for safety reasons.
