The most important thing to know about starting your spring garden inside from seed is when to start…start the seeds too soon and the plants outgrow their containers before it’s time to move them outdoors. Too late and the seedlings will be small and need constant attention. The key is the date of the last frost. Ask your local garden centers or county extension office for your area’s last expected frost date. Then consider the number of days before germination occurs, and add three or four weeks to this – long enough for the seedlings to form a second pair of true leaves. If you subtract the sum from the estimated date of your last frost you should come up with a pretty good planting date.
