Here are some do’s and don’ts when it comes to your home’s windows. First, It’s never a good idea to wash the outside of your windows with a pressure washer. That extreme pressure can damage or destroy the seals on the windows making them leak and ruining their energy efficiency. Next, never insert nails or screws in the interior or exterior of a window frame. You can easily compromise the window’s function and performance by adding fasteners for extra security or to hold up holiday decorations and lights. If your windows are double or triple paned and the glass gets broken… don’t try to fix it yourself. Call a professional. These newer windows use Insulated Glass Units, which contain harmless Argon gas which is sealed between the panes. They are designed this way to create greater energy efficiency. Call your local glass company and have them order a replacement unit and then install it so that it perfectly matches the original window.
