Replacing a Bathtub with a Shower

I am considering taking the bathtub out of my upstairs bathroom and expanding the shower. The downstairs bathroom has a bathtub as well. If we decide to move, will this affect the value of our home? -Joy
Hi Joy,
Technically, a bath with a shower is considered a 3/4 bath while one with a tub is a full bath, so it might make a difference in how your home is described in the real estate listing. But since most people take showers these days, as long as you still have a tub in the house, I don’t see it as a disadvantage. In fact, many people would consider having a spacious shower a plus.

I would like to replace a bathtub with a shower due to my mother’s inability to take a shower in her tub, since having a heart attack this year. The walls are ceramic tile but could be covered with a fiberglass shower unit with glass doors. We don’t know who to contact for this project or what the approximate cost should be. It’s an upstairs bathroom. We are concerned with not getting a reputable contractor in to make these changes. We’ve looked online at some of the companies advertising this type of conversion and some of the comments leave us concerned regarding leaks and improper installations. We need to know what to look for in a contractor. Thank you for any help you may give us in this matter.
