Homeowners ask me all the time how to control their monthly utility bills. According to the Department of Energy, 50-70% of the energy used in the average American home goes toward heating and cooling. But, by properly insulating the attic, you can reduce the amount of energy used and, reduce your monthly utility bills.

The older your home is the more likely it is that you need more insulation. If you can see the tops of the ceiling joists in your attic, then you probably need more insulation. It can be purchased in rolls or mechanically blown into the attic. The Department of Energy has guidelines that show you exactly how much insulation is needed in specific regions.

Insulation is not seen so many people ignore this vital part of energy loss.I have some interesting pictures with my thermal imaging camera.Power cleaning your AC coil and furnace is very important and cost an annual charge but new insulation cost just one time fee for the life of the home.
