Easy Way to Prime Cast Iron Vents for The Kuppersmith Project House

I’m priming the cast iron foundation vents that we’ll be installing around the crawlspace on The Kuppersmith Project house with Rust-Oleum primer. Before painting any kind of metal, it’s so important that you prime it properly first.

I started by using a wire brush to remove any rust that had accumulated on the metal vents, then I sprayed on several light coats of primer. The larger controls on Rust-Oleum spray paint cans are much easier to use than those small push buttons found on most cans of spray paint.

Once the primer has dried, I’ll come back and topcoat the grates with Rust-Oleum spray paint for metal. That way, the grates will be completely finished before we install them.
