Every House Tells a Story

One of things I find interesting when dismantling an old house like the Kuppersmith Project, is to see what you can find inside the walls. By taking a close look at the framing and exposed wall cavities, you can often find unusual reminders of the past—like a time capsule of a bygone era.

It’s pretty amazing to think that 84 years ago, a carpenter stood on this very spot sketching out on a wall stud how he planned to frame up the doorway. Another cool item we found was a gold plated carpenter’s pencil shaped like a bullet that was inadvertently left behind in the wall. While it may not have much monetary value, it’s a living reminder of a time that’s past.
