Use: Attaches to handle for cleaning gutters
Cost: $9.95 + $6.95 S&H = $16.90 total (handle not included)
Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Advertisement for the Gutter Rake claim it’s faster and easier to use than other gutter cleaning tools, so I decided to put it to the test to see if it lives up the hype.

The Gutter Rake attaches to a standard extension pole, which is not included with the product but must be purchased separately at a home improvement center or paint store. After attaching the Gutter Rake to the handle, work off a ladder to drag leaves and other debris toward you. Use the hooked end to push the debris under gutter ferrules, then flip the tool over and use the straight end to pull the debris toward you.

While the Gutter Rake did okay in my test, there are other gutter cleaning products on the market that work as well or better, so I only gave it a two out of five star rating.

While you may not be impressed with the gutter rake when using it with pine needles, it beats EVERY other product I’ve tried when it comes to Douglas fir needles – which are about 1 inch long. Our house is surrounded by 50 or so hundred foot fir trees and every fall, they dump about 1 inch of needles every where, including the house in a time frame of about 5 days, of course when it is also raining. So, it turns into a mat of damp, tightly packed stuff, topping the gutters and overflowing. I just cleaned 30 feet of gutter in about 30 minutes using the gutter rake as opposed to hours with other methods. Its the best $11 tool I’ve ever bought! (It was on a 5 foot stick and I bought it at the local Do It Best hardware store in Camas, WA – maybe they are selling it differently than when you did your review.) Yeah, I still had to grab the crud and toss it out by hand, but, no tool can really manage these darn fir needles! B. Rider
