When painting a room in your home, you’ll probably have to repair the damage caused by picture hangers or nails. After removing the fasteners, apply spackling to the spot with a putty knife, then use a damp sponge to smooth and texture the repair before it dries.

Use a paintable, siliconized latex caulk to fill cracks and gaps around trim molding, wiping off any excess with a damp sponge.
