Framing a house for wind resistance is always a good idea, and may be required by building codes in certain areas, especially those near the coast that are prone to hurricanes.
The first line of defense against wind damage is to secure the bottom and top wall plates to the foundation and rafters using bolts and metal straps. Straps and brackets are then used to attach the wall studs to the plates and foundation, making a continuous chain from top to bottom.
