Replacing your existing thermostat with a programmable, setback model can reduce your heating and cooling costs. A programmable thermostat works by automatically raising the temperature in the summer and lowering it in the winter when you’re away from home for extended periods of time.

Replacing an old thermostat with a modern electronic, setback unit is a great way to save energy. The wires connected to these devices are low voltage control wires, so there’s no risk of shock.
Simply remove the wires from the old unit, and attach them to the new one using the color codes in the instruction manual. For many people, the hardest part is programming the new thermostat.
