To retain as much of the character of the original 1926 home as possible, I decided to use cypress wood shakes from the Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association for the siding on the Kuppersmith Project house.

Since each shake had to be cut around windows, doors, and other obstacles, then nailed up one at a time, installing wood shakes takes more time than other siding materials; but the end result was well worth it.
