Before digging the trenches for the Kuppersmith Project house irrigation system, the utility companies were notified so they could mark any buried water, gas, cable, or power lines. Before digging in your yard, call 811 to have your buried utility lines marked.

A motorized trencher was used to make fast work of digging the trenches for the irrigation system. Next, PVC pipe supply lines were run, with flexible tubing used to attached each sprinkler head. This allows for more precise placement of the sprinklers, and prevents damage to the main lines if a sprinkler is hit by lawn equipment.

The water supply lines run to a central manifold which contains valves to control the water flow to each part of the yard. A low-voltage signal from a controller mounted on the side of the house is used to open and close the valves on the manifold.
