Once all the planning for a kitchen renovation has been completed, tearing out the old kitchen cabinets, countertop, and flooring can begin. If the size of the existing kitchen will be expanded, interior walls may need to be removed as well.

Walls that are not load-bearing can be easily removed, though attention needs to be paid to any wiring inside the wall cavity. Load-bearing walls are trickier, and require ceiling support both during and after the wall is removed.
