New Lightweight Drywall Makes Hanging Easier

One thing that hasn’t changed much over the years in building is drywall, which comes in 4’x8’ and 4’x12’ sheets, as well as 54” wide panels.

Since the ceilings at The Kuppersmith Project are a little more than 8’ high, we’ll hang the walls horizontally using a 54” and 48” piece. Because the sheets are so heavy, the real challenge is picking the drywall up and hanging it over your head on the ceiling.

That’s no longer a problem, thanks to UltraLight Sheetrock® from USG Corporation, which is 30% lighter than standard drywall. I really have to hand it to USG, they’ve made hanging drywall a whole lot easier.

Since it’s 30% lighter, do you think the drywall hangers will knock 30% the cost of hanging it? I don’t think so.
