Radon is an invisible radioactive gas that occurs naturally in the environment and can seep up from the ground into your home to pose a health risk. Exposure to radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S.

To find out if radon is a problem in your area, go to the state by state Radon Zone Maps on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website. If you determine that you live in an area that is at risk for radon gas, you can purchase a radon test kit to measure the level in your home.

If you find that there’s a problem, there are measures you can take to correct it. Granite countertops do not emit enough radon to raise the level significantly in your home.
