A dirty lint filter in your clothes dryer can cause it to use up to 30% more energy to dry your clothes and it’s a potential fire hazard as well. In addition to cleaning after every use, wash the screen in warm soapy water twice a year, and dry it completely before replacing it.

This is one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen. This is modeling clay made from dryer lint. Someone really had to have a lot of free time on their hands to figure this out. Of course, I guess it provides yet another incentive to clean the dryer lint out, because it can use up to 30% more energy with a dirty lint screen. It’s also a potential fire hazard. But here’s something you might not know. Certain kinds of fabric softener sheets will cause a thin film to form on the lint screen which will restrict the air from properly exhausting. So, in addition to cleaning the lint out after each use…twice a year, remove the lint screen, wash it in warm soapy water and dry it completely before replacing it. You’ll save energy and have a clean batch of lint for your next clay project.
