Kitchen floors receive a lot of wear and abuse, so the flooring material you select for a kitchen renovation needs to be both durable and water resistant. Ceramic tile is the most popular choice for a kitchen floor, since it meets both criteria, but there are other options as well.

• Ceramic Tile Flooring: Resistant to both wear and spills, ceramic tile’s only real drawback is that it can be hard on your feet as well. Tile can be installed parallel to the wall or at a 45° angle. While the latter offers a more unique look, it’s a more expensive option due to the extra labor and waste involved.
• Hardwood Flooring:. Wood flooring isn’t as durable as tile but is beautiful to look at and easier on your feet. Since wood flooring is susceptible to wear, it’s a good idea to use throw rugs in areas that receive a lot of traffic. Prefinished engineered wood flooring may hold up better than solid hardwood.
• Laminate Flooring: The look of a hardwood floor can also be achieved through laminate flooring, but make sure the laminate flooring you choose is warrantied for high moisture areas.
